SAT Syllabus 2021– The College Board has prescribed the SAT 2021 syllabus. Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) is an internationally recognized test conducted by the College Board for admissions to several universities and colleges in the United States, Australia, Canada, and other countries. There are two types of SAT 2021: SAT General Test (reasoning test) and SAT Subject Test. SAT General Test is more common and is generally used by undergraduate colleges for admissions.
In this test, the candidates are tested for their written, verbal and mathematical skills. At the same time, the SAT Subject Test is organized to test candidate's knowledge in the chosen subjects like Mathematics, Science, English, History and Languages. The subject matter of SAT remains to be of academic level, and the test paper is prepared after considering the high school level study.
SAT Syllabus 2021 for General (Reasoning) Test

Through SAT 2021, candidates will be tested for their written, verbal and mathematical skills and knowledge in selected subjects.
There are a total of 3 subsections in the SAT reasoning test, namely Evidence-based reading and writing, Maths, Writing and Language, and Essay. Candidates should note that the essay part will be optional. However, some colleges ask the candidates to take up the essay part in the SAT, so in such situations, the candidates will have to take up the SAT reasoning test along with the essay. SAT Syllabus 2021 for Evidence-Based Reading and Writing
In this section, the candidates will have to answer a total of 52 questions. All questions will be of a multiple-choice type, and the candidates will have to complete this section within 65 minutes. In the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing section, the candidates will be given passages with topic information or arguments. The length of the passages will have 500 to 750 words, and each passage will be followed by 10 – 11 questions. Candidates will have to understand the text and answer the questions by using the information. The SAT 2021 syllabus for the Reading section always includes the following items.
- one passage from a classic or contemporary work of U.S. or world literature.
- One passage or a pair of passages from either a U.S. founding document (such as an essay by James Madison) or a text in the Great Global Conversation (such as a speech by Nelson Mandela).
- One passage on a social science topic from any of the fields like economics, psychology, or sociology.
- Two passages from science (or one passage and one passage pair) that tests the knowledge of candidates in foundational concepts or recent developments in Earth science, biology, chemistry, or physics.
- Two passages accompanied by one or more informational graphics.
SAT Syllabus 2021 for Writing and Language Test
This section is a part of the Evidence-Based Reading and Writing test. In this section, candidates will be asked a total of 44 questions with multiple choice answers. This section has to be completed by the students for less than 35 minutes. The section consists of 4 passages that must be read carefully by the candidates before answering the questions. Each passage may be taken from articles or write-ups related to:
- Science
- Careers
- History or Social Studies
- Humanities
Commonly-asked question types in this section are based on:
- Word choice regarding text, style or tone
- Strengthen/weaken the argument
- Structural changes to ensure correctness or improve readability
- Sentence structure, punctuation, grammar usage involving verb tense, parallel construction, subject-verb agreement, etc.
Together, the above two sections are scored on a scale of 200-800. Some passages may be accompanied by graphs or charts that check the interpretative skills of the candidates.
SAT Syllabus 2021 for Math
The Math section of the SAT 2021 exam will have 58 questions (45 multiple-choice questions and 13 Student-produced response questions). Through the Match section, candidates will be tested for their ability to solve the arithmetic problems, using tools strategically and using the algebraic structure. The SAT 2021 Syllabus for Math include the topics mentioned below:
- Heart of Algebra: Linear equations with rational coefficients, the system of linear equations(with no solution, finite or infinite solutions), linear inequalities in two variables and their systems, graphical representation of a linear function.
- Passport to Advanced Math: Quadratic equations with rational coefficients; determination of the most suitable form of expression; addition, subtraction, multiplication and division of polynomial equations; zeros and factors of polynomials, non-linear relationship between two variables, function notation, isolation of a variable by rearrangement of formula or equation.
- Problem-solving and Data Analysis: Percentages; ratio and proportion; unit conversion; equation of line or curve using a scatter plot; two-way tables to calculate conditional frequencies and conditional probabilities; association of variables or independence of events; estimation of a population parameter; calculation of mean, median, mode, range and standard deviation in statistics; evaluation of reports to check the appropriateness of data collection methods.
SAT Syllabus 2021 for Essay (optional)
In the General (Reasoning) Test of SAT 2021, the essay will be given last, which will be optional for the candidates. The candidates who want to take up this section will have to pay additional charges to the basic SAT registration fee. Essay scores in the SAT result will be mentioned separately. Through the essay section, candidates will be tested for their reading, analysis, and writing skills. The candidates will be given a total 50 minutes time given to complete this section. As per the syllabus of SAT 2021, the test takers will have to read a passage, explain how the author builds an argument to persuade an audience, and support the explanation with evidence from the passage.

SAT Exam Pattern 2021
Candidates preparing for the SAT 2021 exam must check the SAT exam pattern 2021 and keep that in their minds while preparing. The SAT reasoning test will be a 3 hrs duration test with no negative marking, while the SAT subject test will be a 1 hr duration test, and the questions will be subject-specific.
